What is Meal Preparation?
Preparing your meals in advance is one of the most important aspects of achieving a well-balanced diet. Knowing what to eat, how much to eat, and when to eat are critical points to a well-balanced diet; however, these critical points are often over looked and/or ignored because of our busy schedules.
You may have heard of the phrase ‘If It Fits In Your Macros’ (IIFIYM)'. Meal prep is the phenomenon of decreasing time in the kitchen and increasing the probability of achieving a well-balanced diet.
How Long has Meal Prep Been ‘A Thing’?
Meal prep has been around since the day humans have discovered fire. Perhaps it was not named ‘Meal Prep;’ nonetheless, humans have been preparing their meals for a very, very, very long time. With advancements in intelligence, science, and technology humans are in the era of consuming and preparing in bulk.

What are Macros?
Put simply, macronutrients are considered the nutrient building blocks the human body needs for proper energy. In a nutshell; balanced health. The body absorbs these nutrients for proper bodily function, metabolism, and are required for growth & development. Macro is defined as large-scale and/or overall. Therefore, macronutrients are nutrients that are needed in a large-scale amount.
What are the Building Blocks that Make Up Macros?
Scientists describe macronutrients (macros) as molecules the human body requires to produce energy from i.e. protein, fat, and carbs. Each substance caries a calorie per gram that assists in keeping track of how many calories are consumed on a daily basis. On a fundamental level there are three building blocks that make up macronutrients.
Protein = 4 calories per gram
Fat = 9 calories per gram
Carbs = 4 calories per gram
